Shamkhani to de Mistura: Iran ready to cooperate with *the UN* in fighting terrorism

20/10/2014

Tehran, SANA – Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary, Ali Shamkhani, voiced his country’s readiness to cooperate with *the United Nations as the sole legal authority to fight terrorist organizations*, stressing that forming new terrorist groups to contain the previous ones or employing foreign military intervention will further escalate the crisis in Syria.

During talks with the UN’s Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on Monday, Shamkhani indicated [pointed to] to

the failure of international conferences in ending the crisis in Syria and

the negative repercussions of forming new terrorist groups to fight the elected government in Syria.

He reiterated the necessity of

reconsidering the wrong policies adopted by some sides,

supporting the Syrian people’ demands, and

providing help to restore security and stability in Syria.

Shamkhani said that *the main obstacle* hindering the achievement of stability in Syria lies in the negative stances of a number of regional and western countries, the arming of the opposition, and inciting violence and killing, despite the fact that the Syrian government announced its readiness to hold dialogue.

For his part, de Mistura highlighted the importance of benefiting from Iran’s experience and its positive role in solving the crisis in Syria, adding that the humanitarian tragedy on the Syrian borders stresses the need for immediate steps that are based on the participation of the influential states in order to fight terrorism.

He noted that a political solution to the crisis in Syria is the best way to confront the threat posed by ISIS and prevent the expansion of this disastrous phenomenon to the whole region.

Editorial: All People Should Be Trained as Scientific and Technological Talents

It is the theory and consistent policy of the Workers' Party of Korea to attach importance to science and technology and talents.

*All* people should be trained as scientific and technological talents.  This slogan is not something which any country dares put up.

Educating all the people to be scientific and technological talents means training all people as talents possessed of rich scientific and technological knowledge and creative ability.

In other words, it means educating all members of the society to be revolutionary talents well versed in the latest scientific and technological knowledge and capable of successfully applying it into practice to satisfactorily solve scientific and technological issues arising in the building of a thriving nation.

The long history of our revolution is shining as the history of the drive for remolding human beings and training revolutionaries.

President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il said long ago: "The popular masses are the great teacher of the revolution" and "if there is an almighty being in the world, it is none other than the popular masses".

These words reflect *the revolutionary philosophy* that

it is necessary to put forward the popular masses as masters and creators of everything and

it is necessary to exert primary efforts for preparing them as reliable workers for the revolution and construction.

The most profound love for the people lies in firmly equipping all members of the society with independent thought and consciousness and training them as talents with high creative ability.

All Koreans should dynamically speed up the process for training all people as scientific and technological talents and fully demonstrate the spirit of creating the Korean speed on all fronts for building a thriving nation under the leadership of the great party.

A Smoking Gun That Actually Smoked: The CIA and the Art of the “Un-Cover-Up” [Excerpts]

by Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair

The “uncover-up” is a process whereby, with all due delay, the agency

first denies with passion

then concedes in profoundly muffled tones charges leveled against it.

One familiar feature in the “uncover-up” paradigm is the frequently made statement by CIA-friendly journalists that “no smoking gun” has been detected in whatever probe is under review.
