[Ilyas] Umakhanov: Syria is on the front lines of war against international terrorism

24/11/2014

Beirut, SANA - Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation Ilyas Umakhanov stressed that Syria which is defending its independence nowadays is

on the front lines of war against international terrorism, and it

is in need for support.

“It is important for us [foreigners] to meet President Bashar al-Assad to recognize how much the dynamism of developments in our relations today suits the new geopolitical events,” Umakhanov said in a meeting with Russian journalists in Beirut.

Commenting on his meeting with President al-Assad, Umakhanov said “We noticed confidence in the language of President al-Assad and we felt of his strong desire to move to reconstructing Syria after the war. . . .  President al-Assad loves his country and he is ready to struggle for it.”

During the meeting, President al-Assad also reiterated that countering terrorism will continue determinedly, and that the Syrian Government is ready to hold dialogue to serve the interests of the Syrian people, Umakhanov elaborated.

He clarified that President al-Assad also considered that Russia has restored its position in the world and it has become a single player in the Middle East.

Talks between President al-Assad and the Russian parliamentary delegation have also touched upon prospects of

enhancing bilateral cooperation and facing terrorism of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria “ISIS” as well as

dialogue among cultures and the work on

confronting the extremist radical conflicts,

Umakhanov said.

He stressed that members of the Russian delegation were pleased that during the meeting President al-Assad supported the joint initiatives which seek to develop the bilateral cooperation, adding that allowing Russian regions such as the republics of North Caucasus and Volga basin to contribute to this cooperation more were also on the table.

The Russian official indicated that the Syrian side

today is tackling the issue of organizing direct flights to those republics and

to establish more links through other transportation means, considering that these projects entail [presuppose] restoring peace in Syria in the first place.

Umakhanov affirmed that the

military-technical cooperation and the

humanitarian aid were on the top priorities of Syria,

indicating that the visit of the Russian delegation came

in the framework of the continued communications with the Syrian leadership.

Last Sunday, the Russian delegation stressed in a meeting with President al-Assad that Russia will continue to stand by the Syrian people and will enhance their resilience in the face of the terrorist war waged against them,

particularly as Syria is *the main front* of countering international terrorism and the extremist mentality.

Kim Jong Un Guides Combined Joint Drill of KPA Large Units

Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK,

organized and guided combined combined joint drill of the units under KPA Large Combined Units 572 and 630.

He mounted the observation post to learn about the plan of the drill before issuing an order to start it.

Watching the course of the maritime transport group and landing formation, he advanced plans and tasks for containing the enemies' counteraction at the time of maneuvering in the waters and approaching the coast for landing.

Watching the fighters of special operation units landing on the coast and charging at a lightning speed to hit the "enemy's" targets, he expressed great satisfaction, saying "they are fighting well and no enemy troops would come to their senses when they are exposed to such attack."

He watched the whole course of the drill with keen attention and estimated its results

before pointing out the shortcomings to overcome and indicating tasks and ways to do so.

"I used to create circumstances all of a sudden any moment to personally organize and guide drill of units because *the present drill is directly linked with the future fight* and destiny of our country", he said.

He instructed *all* units of the KPA *not* to conduct drills, wedded to such ready-made norms as scenarios, but

stage a lot of rehearsals under the simulated conditions of an actual battle by creating various circumstances which they may encounter in a modern warfare, and

get prepared at all times to perform their duties after launching a battle the moment the supreme commander issues an order for mobilization after creating any *conditions any time*.

Noting that it is important to properly set *the purpose* of all drills and their tactical background,

he underlined the need to *frequently stage* such combined joint rehearsals as the one conducted today to suit the nature of a modern warfare and

meet the requirements of Juche-based war methods in order to bolster up the capability of units at various levels to conduct operations and improve the operation-commanding ability of commanding officers

by focusing main efforts on rounding off the close coordination among units of services and arms and ensuring

promptness,

rapidity,

unity

and accuracy

in combat actions.

He also stressed the need for all commanding officers and training officers of the KPA to study hard to cope with the enemies' ever-changing war modes,

steadily improve the styles and methods of training and thus let all units conduct drills under the simulated conditions of an actual battle

so that they may be staged with *main emphasis* on helping the servicemen acquire methods of combat actions *useful in actual battles*.

Recalling that there are still leftovers of

formalism,

expediency and

stylish manner,

he called for taking strong measures to root them out.

He underscored the need for the whole army to more thoroughly arm itself with the revolutionary idea of the party and make a hot wind of undergoing intensive training

just as the anti-Japanese guerrillas did in Mt. Paektu prevail at all units

so that all service personnel may be prepared as Mt. Paektu *tigers* possessed of Kim Il Sung / Kim Jong Il military strategy and tactics, *perfect capability to fight an actual war*, marksmanship of never missing targets and strong physical bodies, and thus turn all units into *steel-strong guards units*.

He was accompanied by KPA Vice Marshal Hwang Pyong So, director of the General Political Bureau of the KPA, Army General Ri Yong Gil, chief of the KPA General Staff, and other commanding officers of the KPA and O Il Jong and Han Kwang Sang, department directors of the Central Committee of the WPK.
